Interior Decoration Tips (Add New Life to Your Home)
Interior decoration is growing leaps and bounds in the Nepali market and gradually becoming a part of all Nepali homes. Whether it is decorating a new house or redecorating an old one, people want their house to be the best representation of themselves.
While designing a space from scratch or modifying their house completely is something everyone wants to do, not all of us can afford to do it. Luckily for us, there are some simple interior decoration tips that can elevate our houses’ aesthetic. These interior decoration tips won’t require that we empty our bank accounts to be able to pay for them.
Some of these interior decoration ideas are super easy to incorporate into your overall room decoration scheme. For example, designers have long been adding small touches like paintings, lamps, a mirror or a houseplant to breathe life into space.
A different shade of paint can help soften your walls, a different set of furniture can optimize space, and there are so many other interior decoration tips and tricks that can inspire you to give your space a much-needed makeover.
Paint’s Giving You Pain?
Painting the house seems to be one area of interior decoration that everyone seems to find daunting, and fairly so. There are so many options to pick from, you never know how much paint you need to buy, and what shade each room should be.
Too many questions! And it gets especially scary if you want to paint your house yourself! But here’s what you can do.
First of all, if you have a small room, like most of us in Kathmandu, paint your room in softer colors. If you paint your room dark, it is going to look even smaller, bleak, and dreary.
So paint the room white, eggshell white, cream or go with a pastel color. That combined with large windows, minimal furniture, and strategically placed mirrors will make your room feel less boxed-in.
You have more room to play with big rooms, and most paint colors will suit your space. You can highlight one particular wall with a different paint shade or texture to create a statement wall. Creating a gallery wall with paintings and photos is another great wall decoration idea.
Now that that’s sorted, let’s discuss how much paint you might need for your space. The rule is simple. You need one gallon of paint per 400 square feet. Just get a little bit extra, and you should be fine.
Weak for Wicker
If you have read our previous blog posts, you know that we at Green Design Nepal are a fan of wicker everything.
Wicker baskets are a great way of adding a fashionably natural touch to your the overall interior design style of your home within a budget.
And the best bit?
They are functional too! If you don’t have space in your kitchen, for instance, for a big cupboard, just get some wicker baskets and put them on a shelf. You can also store magazines, makeup, toys, clothes, and pretty much anything else in the wicker baskets and call it a day.
You Might Be Installing Curtains Wrong!!
Oops! We hate to be the ones to point it out, but you are not getting all that you can out of curtains.
But don’t worry; we have all done it. If you are not sure how you can make your ready-made curtains look high-end, here’s what you can do.
Install your curtain rod six-inch wide and 12 inches higher than the window frame. This way your windows will look much larger than they really are and make your room seem light and airy.
If you hang your curtains lower than or exactly at the same point as your window frame, your windows will look small. The higher you go with your curtain rod, the longer your curtains should be. The best thing to do is to ensure that your curtains reach the floor to make your ceilings look higher than they are.
Let There Be Light
Make sure the fixtures are stylish though! Picking the right lighting ideas that goes with the interior design style for your home is a hassle.
Even more so if you are thinking of changing it once the electrician has installed it. It is important, therefore, to make sure you know what you are doing.
Even though the big chandelier you saw at the furniture store has claimed your heart, you need to think about whether or not it’ll go with your interior decoration scheme and your space.
There’s a simple rule you can follow: If it is a dining room fixture, it should be one-third or two-thirds the size of the dining table.
For your living room, you can go with a large chandelier as long as your ceilings are high and your room is big. Add the length and breadth of your room in feet, and the sum, in inches, is how wide your chandelier should be. If not, you might want to stick with a small geometric light.
For your bedroom, you can go with a 24- to a 36-inch chandelier, if it is 150 or 200 square feet that is. If you want to experiment a little more, you can also go with multiple light fixtures rather than a chandelier. That works especially well if the interior design for your home follows a minimalistic or an industrial scheme.
There are other simple interior decoration tips that can up your home’s style quotient. Mixing up patterns and furniture styles, getting a tapestry or a rug, adding some vintage items to your house are some other ideas that are both popular and easy to execute.
